The storage of Pu-erh tea, need to pay attention to sealing, avoiding light, preventing odor, ventilation, moderate temperature and humidity, and so on.
Generally speaking, there are three ways to store pu-erh tea, the first, pu-erh tea with kraft paper bags, squeeze out the excess air, seal the bag mouth, placed in the study, tea room, etc.; the second, for frequent access or unpacking of pu-erh tea, can be wrapped in cotton paper, put into the canisters for storage; the third, for the whole mention of pu-erh tea, with the original packaging, plus cardboard box sealed storage.

Introducing you to the three methods of Puerh tea preservation:
Method 1: Kraft paper bags
For a single cake or a small amount of pu-erh tea, use kraft paper bags.
1, take a clean kraft paper bag, Puerh tea into the bag, squeeze out the excess air, seal the bag, now are zipper type, very convenient.
2, if there are several cakes, you can be loaded separately, placed in the study, tea room and other dry places, pay attention to environmental ventilation.
For some rainy, wet areas, it is best to prepare a dehumidifier, hygrometer.
Normal weather does not need to open the dehumidifier, to maintain indoor humidity is good.
When encountering continuous rainy days, it is necessary to close the windows and doors of the small room, and then start the dehumidifier to create a relatively dry indoor environment.
Method 2: Pottery Storage
This method is for Puerh tea that is frequently accessed or has been unwrapped, and is suitable for short-term.
- Choose a pottery urn or jar and place the tea cakes in the storage vessel.
This is because pottery products have the characteristics of ventilation and air permeability, which is very suitable for storing Puerh tea, and you can also use this method to wake up the tea.
2, each time you finish taking, the jar will be covered, put back to the original place can be, so that its natural ventilation, not dust, not into the foreign body on the line.
Method three: cardboard box storage
Cardboard boxes are a more practical method, easy to store at home and do not take up too much space.
If your Pu-erh tea cakes are a complete mention, then the storage is very simple, with the original packaging, plus cardboard sealed storage is good.
1, with cardboard boxes to pay attention to the smell of the cardboard box itself, so get back to the cardboard box to ensure that its source is clean, if there is a smell it is best to leave it for a period of time, to dissipate the odor and then storage Pu’er tea cakes.
2, the tea stored in the carton can be stored in the whole bucket, do not disassemble.
For some only a few cakes, you can first use aluminum foil bags, kraft paper bags encapsulated, and then into the cardboard box.
Another carton storage, pay attention to the storage, the weather is humid, in southern China, too heavy humidity is easy to get wet cardboard, in addition to off the ground away from the wall storage.
In addition, Pu’er tea storage should pay attention to:
- Ventilation
Storing Pu-erh tea, we often say ventilation, but here the ventilation, refers to the storage of tea space environment of the air is circulating, circulation, but can not be placed in the wind.
Circulating air has more oxygen, which is conducive to the reproduction of some microorganisms in the tea. Favorable to the combination of tea and oxygen in the air, non-enzymatic auto-oxidation and accelerate the “aging”.
- Cool
It is good to store Puerh tea in a location that is not exposed to sunlight and is naturally light-permeable. Moderate light can cause the chlorophyll in the tea leaves to undergo photosensitive oxidative degradation, resulting in significant browning of the tea leaves.
- Temperature
The temperature for storing Pu-erh tea is generally between 20-30℃, which is the normal room temperature, too high or too low temperature is not favorable to the aging of Pu-erh tea; at the same time, we should avoid air-conditioning, internal light, etc. to change the quality of Pu-erh tea.
- Humidity
The relative humidity for storing Pu-erh tea should be kept between 65%-75%, too high or too low humidity is also unfavorable to the aging of Pu-erh tea.
Too high humidity will accelerate the diffusion and movement of the beneficial components in Pu-erh tea, which will lead to rapid aging and deterioration, resulting in moldy and undrinkable tea. Especially in the southern coastal area, rainy season and summer air humidity is very high, must do a good job of Pu-erh tea “moisture work”.
- Odor-free environment
Tea is very easy to absorb odors, so when storing Pu-erh, it should be noted that the tea will absorb the most odors, and once absorbed is irreversible. Therefore, it can not be placed in the bedroom, kitchen, bathroom and other places, it is best to set up a dedicated small tea room, to maintain an independent environment.
In addition, when stored, it is recommended that raw tea and ripe tea, new tea and old tea should be stored separately to avoid each other’s influence. At the same time, when the tea is stored, it needs to be off the ground and away from the wall, and check from time to time.
